World of Tanks is at least worth a try for any avid gamer

World of Tanks is a free to play video game on PC and Xbox 360 that focuses on tanks developed, designed, and/or fielded before the mid 1960’s. Its fast paced battles and plethora of content is a breath of fresh air when slated against the hoard of other games that are shooters or are free to play. Let me start off by saying that World of Tanks isn’t like other free to play games in that almost everything in the game is available without spending a dime without any impossible hoops to jump through for free players.

What World of Tanks does well is that Wargaming.net does a nice balancing act of staying true to the historical aspects of the game while also bending to create an addicting game to play. That isn’t to say that the game is not without it’s faults and this review will cover the good, the bad, and the ugly of World of Tanks. Please keep in mind that this World of Tanks review is for the PC version of World of Tanks and while the Xbox 360 version is almost identical gameplay wise, there are some differences.

World of Tank's 15-on-15 matches are often epic in scope but short and explosive once munitions start flying. It's not long before skirmishes erupt at key choke points along each map, as the front lines clash and pave the way for the artillery duels and heavily armored pushes not far behind. Getting blown up sidelines you to watch the battle unfold as a spectator, though you can jump out of the match and start a new one with a different tank too. This staggered approach to matches keeps you close to the action, and each encounter is as thrilling as the last.

In contrast to the initial welcome, it is a lot easier to actually enter the battlefield. Because everyone drives around in a rolling killing machine, you have to act quickly in dangerous situations. One or two well placed shots usually mean the end of your adventure, after which the pot ends for you, so you are driven not to let this happen. After a few pots you have full control of the controls and you start to make a difference.

You drive a level two-tank through a city that is in tatters. Two enemy tanks, obviously a higher level than your vehicle, try to flank you from two sides. You drive past a house and disappear from their wheel. Both enemies stand still for a while, awaiting your appearance. You smash the caterpillars of one tank, making it temporarily unable to move. Enough time to continue driving and to disable his size from a distance. After you blow up the helpless tank you feel like a seasoned tactician. This is when World of Tanks is at its best, but such moments are rare. Finally, to enjoy all the features in the game, players can Buy World of Tanks Blitz Gold from Mmocs at a reasonable price.
