Compared with the traditional network system, SD-WAN is built on a transparent, controllable and predictable white-box system. It can define and virtualize the network resources needed. It has flexible networking, fast provisioning, fast cloud entry, centralized management and control. Many advantages, such as value-added services, can effectively cope with complex network services and become an important direction of current network evolution. According to Gartner's forecast, by the end of 2019, 30% of enterprises will deploy SD-WAN in their branches, and large-scale commercialization will occur within five years. CBInsight's research report also shows that SD-WAN has become the most preferred IT technology for enterprises in 2019.
Because SD-WAN and traditional network architecture are very different, network access becomes more and the application environment is more flexible, which brings additional challenges to its security and performance.
